Sept 27th Left Ft Union at 7 ½ O’clock and very gladly did I do so for neither pleasure or comfort have I seen since I went there. I took breakfast in camp & mounted my old mule & started joyfully towards “The States” we number over 100 men well armed & hope to reach the Mo River by Nov 1st camped near Burgwin Springs Dist 13 miles – weather delightful – campd at 12 – Wagons Phila make – best on the Plains
